Collective Agreement
Collective Bargaining Agreements:
The contractual agreements between Saskatchewan Polytechnic and SPFA are contained in a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) along with a series of independent agreements called Letters of Understanding (LOU’s). Some LOU’s are contained in the Appendix’s of the CBA and all other applicable LOU’s are provided on this page. The CBA sets out the agreed-upon workplace rules and obligations of both the employer and SPFA membership that shall be followed for a specific duration of time before amendments, additions, or redactions can be negotiated.
As bargaining agent, SPFA’s mandate is to seek the greatest benefit for the greatest percentage of its membership.
SPFA members were previously in contract with the employer in the 2012-2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement.
SPFA members are currently in contract with the employer in the 2017-2023 Collective Bargaining Agreement.
SPFA will begin its collective bargaining process for the next agreement in the fall of 2022.

Letters of Understanding:
From time to time, SPFA and Sask Polytech identify the need for a resolution to a labour relations issue that impacts SPFA membership and the institution. When this occurs, the parties engage in micro-negotiations for new rights or rules that are not identified in the CBA. If the parties can agree to a resolution, the resulting ‘binding’ document is called a Letter of Understanding (LOU).
Purposefully, the SPFA does not engage in LOU’s outside of collective bargaining unless there is an urgent or specific need that will provide an immediate benefit to our membership.
