SPFA members and their families have access to health and dental benefits at Sask Polytechnic. These benefits are employer paid and cover a variety of medical and dental costs for you and your family.
Dental
Members become eligible for dental benefits upon completion of six months of continuous employment. Benefit claims are retroactive to the start of the waiting period. Reimbursement levels for part-time employees is based on a percentage of full-time hours worked in the previous calendar year.
Employee Benefits
Full-time members become eligible for health benefits on the first day of the month immediately following six consecutive months of continuous service. Part-time members working 37.5% to 70% of regular full-time hours in the previous fiscal year are eligible for coverage at 50%.
Long Term Disability
SPFA, through direct member contribution, provides a long term disability plan.
Details and criterion of the plan are available in the plan booklet.
LTD FORMS:
- Canada Life is the insurance carrier for the LTD plan for SPFA members.
- The plan has a cost of 1.33% of gross pay, 100% employee paid
- The plan has a dollar amount benefit equivalent to the previous SGEU LTD plan.
- Because this plan is 100% employee paid, a member receives tax-free benefits when drawing LTD.
- The plan is fully insured (i.e., it is underwritten by an insurance underwriter.
- The plan is retroactive to November 1, 2012. Therefore, there is no gap in coverage between the previous SGEU LTD plan and the replacement SPFA Canada Life LTD plan.
- Members who are currently collecting LTD benefits under the SGEU LTD plan will continue to collect these benefits from the SGEU LTD plan as per the contract terms.
- LTD premium deductions began with December 2012 pay periods.
