Hi SPFA Members,
Just a reminder that the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Faculty Association (SPFA) virtual AGM is scheduled for November 9, 2023 @ 12:00 noon to 1:30 pm.
Elections and E-Voting:
- The 2023 SPFA Executive Council elections will use electronic voting only. Members can vote through any device which allows them access to their SaskPolytech email account.
- The list of candidates is posted on the SPFA website under the “News” tab. Candidate nomination forms, including statements, can be viewed on the protected side of the SPFA website – – http://spfa.ca/ under AGM >> Nov 9, 2023 >> Candidates. Members must log in to view the documents.
- Secretary Treasurer (2-year term) – Dan Chalupiak and Guolu (George) Ding
- VP Regina (2-year term) – Keenan Flegel (will be acclaimed at the AGM)
- VP Prince Albert (2-year term) – Wendy Lemaigre (will be acclaimed at the AGM)
- VP Moose Jaw (1-year term) – John Omay (will be acclaimed at the AGM)
- VP Saskatoon (1-year term) – Amy Rederburg, Melanie Hnidy and Vaughn Schmidt
- Candidates who are not acclaimed (Secretary-Treasurer and VP Saskatoon positions) will be given an opportunity to campaign from October 11 to midnight on November 2, 2023. Candidate forums will be held for the Secretary-Treasurer and VP Saskatoon positions. Dates and times will be provided once scheduled.
- On November 3rd, an e-Ballot email will be sent to Academic Members in all campuses to vote for the Secretary-Treasurer. Saskatoon members will also receive a ballot for the Vice President Saskatoon. Electronic Voting for both positions will remain open until 10:00 pm November 8, 2023.
- Members who did not receive an electronic ballot should, after checking your junk folder, contact info@spfa.ca.
- Following the close of the election, all electronic ballots will be tallied to determine the outcome for the positions up for election and results will be shared with members on November 9th at the end of the AGM when the new Executive Council is announced.
Other Important Dates:
- As per Article VII, Section 4 (Resolutions) – Resolutions to be considered at the AGM will be received by the SPFA until Oct 26, 2023 (2 weeks prior to the AGM). Note that late resolutions will still be accepted at the AGM, subject to Article VII, Section 5. The Constitution defines Resolutions as “a formal statement of opinion, or a statement to direct an action, adopted by the Members. This does not include changes to the Constitution and Bylaws, which is a Constitutional Amendment.”
- As per Article X, Section 2(b) – effective October 26, 2023 (2 weeks before the AGM), proposed amendments to the constitution for discussion at the AGM will be circulated to the membership.

Pre-AGM budget forums have worked well to provide members with the opportunity to hear more in-depth information and ask questions and cut down on time required for financial information during the AGM; therefore, a review of the 2022/2023 Variance Analysis with Notes and the 2024/25 Statement of Operations Budget with Notes will be presented at a virtual All-Campus meeting on October 31, 2023. More details will be provided in the coming weeks on the exact time. The motion accepting the budget is still scheduled for the AGM.
